A Chicago Abstract Painter Remembered Retrospectively
Three of Pannier's series were dedicated to Chicago classic architecture. Many series encompassed architectural elements in the structure of the paintings.

"Rape of the Temple Women" 1981
Slashing the second painting "Rape of the Temple Women" represented the demolition of the Woman's Temple.
Pannier was very concerned about the destruction of Chicago classic architecture - in particular buildings done by Burnham and Root. The Woman's Temple was demolished in 1926 and the Ashland Block in 1949.

Buidings by Adler and Sullivan were also demolished, including the Masonic Temple in 1939, the Schiller building n 1961 and the Chicago Stock Exchange Trading Room in 1972. This inspired Pannier to do this series.
Richard Nickel, known as the guardian of Chicago's heritage, worked to catalogue and salvage some of the most exquisite ornaments of the Stock Exchange. Sadly he perished during the demolition.
