A Chicago Abstract Painter Remembered Retrospectively
"Paintings to John Wellborn Root"
Pannier's last major series was in 1981, inspired by the demolition of classical Chicago architecture. For each demolished building, he made a second identical painting that he slashed, representing the destruction and his disillutionment. This series was completed with a small grant from the Illinois Art Council It was never shown as a group.
